Improving Care By Measuring Patient Outcomes

Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates is dedicated to the measurement and analysis of patient outcomes on both a local and national level. Our practice led the creation of the National Neurosurgery Quality and Outcomes Database (N2QOD), a national registry that tracks the quality of surgical care for the most common neurosurgical procedures. Drs. Tony Asher and Matt McGirt, neurosurgeons at our practice, serve as director and vice director, respectively, of North America's largest spine outcomes measurement effort. This data is used to empower better decision-making by our doctors and more informed decision-making by our patients.

The primary goals of the N2QOD are to:

  • Establish risk-adjusted national benchmarks for the cost and quality of common neurosurgical procedures
  • Generate both quality and efficiency of neurosurgical procedures
  • Demonstrate the comparative effectiveness of neurosurgical procedures

Each year we help thousands of patients with spine injuries and disorders return to work and enjoy a more active life. National companies choose us to provide value-driven healthcare with judicious evidence-based utilization of surgery. Our data tells us which treatments are most effective for patients in all areas of care. We go beyond what an MRI scan can show, and we ask patients the most important question of all: Did you benefit from your care? This helps us improve the outcomes of future patients.
