Biography
As a physiatrist at Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates, Dr. Tim Olivier provides comprehensive spine and musculoskeletal care. His clinical interests span from conservative therapies to advanced image-guided procedures. This includes procedures throughout the spine (cervical, thoracic, lumbar and sacral levels) as well as the extremities. He performs procedures including epidural steroid injections, medial branch blocks, radiofrequency ablations, nerve blocks, joint injections, and sacroiliac injections among others. His clinical practice also includes neuromodulation treatments such as spinal cord and peripheral nerve stimulation. He is particularly passionate about helping patients improve function and overall quality of life through personalized, goal-oriented treatment plans.
Originally from Massachusetts, Dr. Olivier earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Notre Dame before attending the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He went on to complete an Internal Medicine internship at UMass Medical Center, a residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the University of Texas Southwestern, and a fellowship in Pain Medicine at West Virginia University’s Center for Integrative Pain Management.
Drawn to medicine through both his love of science and his Christian faith, Dr. Olivier takes a whole-body approach to patient care. He believes the most important step in treatment is understanding each patient’s goals and creating a collaborative plan to reach them. His philosophy is one of teamwork, with the patient and the rest of the care team.
Outside of work, Dr. Olivier enjoys staying active through running, skiing, hiking, golfing, and playing sports. A lifelong Boston and Notre Dame sports fan, he also plays the trumpet and enjoys jigsaw puzzles. His family remains in Massachusetts, where he grew up with his parents, sister, and the family’s labradoodle.
