Atrium Health advances neurosurgery and spine care through expanded Partnership with Carolina NeuroSurgery & Spine Associates in Greensboro
04.21.2026

GREENSBORO, N.C., April 15, 2026, – In a move that builds on an already successful collaboration, Atrium Health is advancing its neurosurgery and spine program through an expanded partnership with Carolina NeuroSurgery & Spine Associates (CNSA). Following the successful collaboration with CNSA’s Charlotte-area clinics launched late last year, CNSA’s Greensboro teammates will join Atrium Health on May 1, enhancing patient access to advanced neurosurgical and spine care across the region.

Atrium Health and CNSA have a longstanding neurosurgery and spine partnership across North Carolina. The expansion to Greensboro reflects the continued evolution of that relationship, aligning clinical expertise, resources and care teams to build on an already strong foundation of care for patients and communities. CNSA’s relationship and care pathways with other health systems will remain unchanged and we will continue operating at trusted partner hospitals. Patients will continue receiving care from the same trusted providers, in the same convenient locations, now supported by the combined strength of Atrium Health and CNSA.

“Our collaboration with CNSA has already proven to be incredibly impactful to our patients, and we’re excited to expand those benefits to our patients in the Greensboro area,” said Mike Hayes, vice president of neurosciences at Atrium Health. “The alliance of our Charlotte operations allowed us to further strengthen access to specialized care while ensuring continuity for patients and their families. Extending that approach to Greensboro is a natural extension of this success.”

The expansion of the relationship to Greensboro reflects Atrium Health’s and CNSA’s continued focus on the advantages to patients with a collaborative approach and innovation for patient care. By building on their established foundation, the organizations are renewing their mutual commitment to strengthen patients’ access to the full spectrum of high-quality, comprehensive, advanced neurosurgery and spine care services, ranging from nonoperative treatment options and minimally invasive outpatient procedures to complex surgical care.

“We are broadening our partnership to further strengthen and expand access to the care our communities know and trust,” said Dr. Mark Smith, neurosurgeon and president of Carolina NeuroSurgery & Spine Associates. “Patients will continue to see the same physicians and care teams they trust, now complemented by additional resources and support. Together, we are focused on delivering exceptional, patient-centered neurosurgery and spine care.”
